I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness in the great assembly; indeed, I do not restrain my lips, O Lord, You Yourself know. I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth from the great assembly. (Psalm 40:9-10)
There are many, like myself, who are not as demonstrative in the expression of their worship as others are. I would say how we express ourselves is due primarily to an individual’s personality; some are naturally outgoing and excitable while others are more reserved. Remember, the patriarch Jacob is described as being a temperate man while David was one who would dance with all his might in front of anyone and everyone. But could we say that one was more spiritual than the other? I think not — both men were faithful in their walk and, through word and deed, proclaimed “the good news of righteousness.”
As followers of Messiah, it is our mandate to declare His faithfulness and salvation. We are commissioned to be witnesses of the risen Messiah and the Good News of the Kingdom until all have heard. Whatever our personality traits, we have been given the responsibility to make disciples of the nations, to lift up the name of the Messiah that He might draw all men unto Himself. In short, we are to proclaim the praises of Him who has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light. To refuse to do this would be akin to denying what He has done in our life, and to deny Him on earth would result in being denied by Him in Heaven (Matthew 10:33).
David said, “I have not hidden Your righteousness … and I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth.” In short, he did not keep his faith a secret; rather, he broadcast his belief for all to hear. Very few of us are going to go downtown, stand on a street corner and declare, “The end is near!” But everyone of us have contact with family, friends, coworkers and the occasional Divine appointment. We should make the most of the opportunities granted us to share the Good News of the Kingdom by living in a way that brings glory unto the Father. And when our good fruit draws those who are hungry, “be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you” (1 Peter 3:15).
Blessings and Shalom,
Bill
