The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, and his tongue talks of justice. The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide. (Psalm 37:30-31)
Throughout this psalm, David expressed the attributes and characteristics of those called righteous and established that their pursuit of God and things holy would be rewarded. Beyond the benefit to themselves and their family, there is the benefit that others may receive because of the blessing of the Lord. For instance, a righteous man not only shares his material resources with the less fortunate, but is capable of sharing treasures of another sort — he gives wisdom and understanding to those who are needy in this regard. Not only can he help others to better understand Scripture and doctrinal issues but, because of God-given wisdom, the righteous is in position to help others with settling affairs between someone and their fellow man.
All of this is predicated on the fact that the righteous man expresses with this mouth what is in his heart. As it is written, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things” (Matthew 12:34-35). Those who hide the Word of God in their heart express wisdom with sincerity and truth; those whose hearts are filled with treachery and pride cannot do so because theirs is the wisdom of this world which is “coming to nothing” (1 Corinthians 2:6).
The point is this: God blesses His people with resources that are both physical and spiritual in nature, that we might live abundantly in this world. Furthermore, those resources are not just for our sake but for those God brings into our lives. Just as He is the fountainhead of truth, justice and wisdom, He calls upon us to be vessels through which He can pour out blessings upon others. When the steps of a good man are ordered of the Lord, it is to be understood that our steps will intersect with others who are in need of what has been invested into us. So then, always be full of the Word of God and be guided by His Spirit; if we do this, our steps will not fail.
Blessings and Shalom,
Bill
