The trees of the Lord are full of sap, the cedars of Lebanon which He planted, where the birds make their nests; the stork has her home in the fir trees. The high hills are for the wild goats; the cliffs are a refuge for the rock badgers. (Psalm 104:16-18)
In these verses, though not clearly stated, we see there is a divine order to Creation. Nothing in the earth came about haphazardly; everything God created serves a purpose. Inorganic minerals, vegetation and living creatures all work together to form the fabric of what God intended life on earth to be. In fact, some categories of creation exist solely to serve the higher categories. For instance, minerals in the soil saturated with rain feeds the lofty cedar trees which, in turn, provide refuge for birds of every type. The high mountains provide an appropriate habitat for the wild goats that roam the remote regions of the world. Even the boulders and rocks that litter the wilderness serve God’s purpose by providing shelter for small four-footed creatures, thus protecting them from the birds of prey that swoop down looking for food.
This obvious design stands in direct opposition to what evolutionists would have us believe. They teach that the higher forms of life — e.g. mankind — emerged from the lesser forms over millions of years. In contrast, the Bible reveals that the lesser forms of life were created to serve the higher forms; as it is written: “God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion … over all the earth and over every thing on the earth’” (Genesis 1:26). Evolutionists believe that all organisms, great and small, adapt to the nature of their specific environment. Yet Scripture clearly reveals that the different environments on earth were created specifically to suit the needs of the creatures who were ordained to inhabit them. As it is written, “The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed” (Genesis 2:8).
All of this is to amplify the fact that creation and everything in it is no accident. Just as every mineral, every rock and every tree are the result of Intelligent Design, you and I exist because the Creator of the Universe ordained it. And if He ordained that we were to come into this world, He also commissioned us to come into this world with a purpose. As Paul said, “We are His workmanship, created in Messiah for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).
Furthermore, in keeping with the pattern we see in His Creation, though we have been given dominion over those creations that are lesser, we are here, ultimately, to serve the One who is greater than we. He has provided for all our needs and continually blesses us with what is required to sustain our lives. In turn, it is our duty, and should be regarded as our privilege, to serve Him with all our being and fulfill the good works for which we were created. All of creation serves Him without question; may we do likewise.
Blessings and Shalom,
Bill
