Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns; the world also is firmly established, it shall not be moved; He shall judge the peoples righteously.” (Psalm 96:10)
The Messiah made it clear that, before His return to rule over the nations, the world would be in a state of chaos and declination. As He said, “There will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved” (Matthew 24:21-22). The prophet Isaiah wrote that, “The earth is violently broken and split open; the earth is shaken exceedingly. The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall totter like a hut” (Isaiah 24:19-20). All of this is to say that, in the last days, the world will appear as being on the verge of collapse — but then the Lord of Heaven will step in.
There is nothing man has done, even from the beginning, that has taken the Almighty by surprise and left Him uncertain of what to do. For example, before the foundation of the world — and before the fall of man — the Lamb was slain (Revelation 13:8). In other words, regardless of man’s best efforts to disrupt and destroy His Creation, “The Lord reigns” and the world He has established “shall not be moved.” In fact, Paul revealed that the Creator subjected the world to corruption, but determined that the creation would be “delivered from the bondage of corruption” (Romans 8:20-21). Again, the world He has established, and its purpose, will not be overturned.
Before that happens, the Messiah will return and bring stability to the earth; He will reclaim what is rightfully His and restore order, peace and “judge the peoples righteously.” As the prophet Micah foretold, “He shall judge between many peoples, and rebuke strong nations afar off…. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore” (Micah 4:3). In light of this, you and I should not be overcome and immobilized with fear and dread as we see the world spiral out of control. True, troubles will no doubt touch our lives but, unlike those who participate in the chaos, you and I have hope. Our happiness and future is not limited by what occurs in this present age; we are promised that a better day is coming, and so, let’s keep our focus on what is to occur beyond the headlines of today. Even so, come Lord Yeshua!
Blessings and Shalom,
Bill
