Vindicate me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation; oh, deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man! (Psalm 43:1)

It is unfortunate but true — far too many people work overtime to interrupt and complicate the lives of others. In order to advance their own agenda, they find it necessary to spin webs of deceit in which they intend to entangle anyone who might stand in their way. Making things worse is the fact that, oftentimes, these agitators do not fit the stereotype of a wicked person because they present themselves as kind and trustworthy. These people are the most dangerous kind of villain. In fact, I would say these people are worse than the wicked because, being better positioned to deceive those who trust them, they pose a greater danger.

And so it is that there are times in our life when we unknowingly walk into these webs and get caught up in the sticky drama that goes with them. At no fault of our own, we can be immersed in difficult situations that are so convoluted and have so many tentacles that it is impossible for us to know who to trust or what to do, much less resolve the problem. It is in these times that our only hope is the Lord because, unlike you and me, He sees all and knows all.

In those times, it is quite appropriate and, in fact, needful for us to call upon the Lord and plead with Him to vindicate us, or more literally, avenge us. There are some situations so complicated that if we were to take up our own cause and combat the deceitful and unjust man, we would look like the bad guy. However, if we allow the Lord to work in His way and in His time, He can and will vindicate us in such a way that all will be compelled to acknowledge our innocence. And so, in spite of the best efforts of those with nefarious intentions, those who put trust God for vindication will not be disappointed. He may not act when and how we want, but He knows what is best. As for us, when we find ourselves in this kind of situation, devote the energy and words you would have used against your adversary to an appeal to Heaven for vindication.

Blessings and Shalom,
