The King’s strength also loves justice; You have established equity; You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob. (Psalm 99:4)
Among men, those who wield great power have a tendency to regard themself as being above the law. History is, in fact, replete with examples of those who live by the philosophy of “Rules for thee but not for me.” Many have used power to elevate themselves, very often, at the expense of those who don’t have that kind of influence. Therefore, these unjust rulers are regarded as hypocritical and corrupt tyrants, held in contempt by the masses.
The Holy One of Israel is the exact opposite of this; even though He is the Creator of all things and answers to no one, He loves justice. He uses His might and strength to execute and uphold truth, righteousness and what is written. Even then, He administers justice and truth with compassion and mercy, always leaving the door open to those with contrite and repentant hearts. And consider this also — He always administers justice according to His own laws. In other words, unlike men who make rules they do not themselves keep, the Sovereign of the Universe never contradicts that which He has ordained and declared.
That being so, we should readily embrace the statutes and ordinances that the all-wise, all-powerful King of the Universe has established. His instructions are just and equitable, demonstrating that every individual has worth and is due dignity and equal treatment under His law. In short, there aren’t sons and daughters more favored than others in the same way man sees it. There are no special people in the eyes of God. There are, however, people called to a special purpose and, in that regard, are called set apart — set apart not because they are different or for the purpose of being different. We are set apart in order to make a difference, and thus it is written — “You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.”
