Description
This is Bill’s commentary on the torah portion, Be’har or “on the mount.” In this portion, Moses is given details concerning the sh’mittah (sabbatical year) and the yovel (jubilee). Through these observances we understand that the land of Israel is God’s and is enlisted in His service to help the poor and the beasts of the field. Where the land is concerned, His people are considered tenants given the opportunity to enjoy the bounty of the land while respecting the wishes of its owner – the Creator of heaven and earth. Some of the highlights include:
- Why failure to obey these commands resulted in exile.
- Why obedience to these commands brings fullness and peace.
- Our obligations to the poor of our brethren.
(Approximately 60 minutes).
