In Revelation 17, John was shown a great mystery involving a woman riding a beast. He said:
“One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, ‘Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.’ … And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast … arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication. And on her forehead a name was written: ‘MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.’ ” [Revelation 17:1-5]
Notice this harlot is also called “a woman.” I realize that might seem trivial or even silly to point out but the reason for bringing it up is crucial to our objective. You see, the Greek word here, translated as “woman,” is gune and is rendered in the New Testament as “wife” just as often as it is translated “woman.” In other words, this harlot may also be someone’s wife. Without getting too graphic, a wife should only receive the seed of her husband. A harlot, on the other hand, is one who engages in fornication which, in this case, is receiving the seed of multiple lovers. If she is also someone’s wife, her fornication results in mixing the seed of her husband with that of her other lovers.
As you should know, this is a prohibition given to God’s people time and again throughout Scripture – “Do not mix the holy with the profane.” That is to say, do not mix God’s Seed (His Word) with the seed of other “gods” – other philosophies, ideologies, religions, etc. Might it be, then, that this scarlet-clothed harlot is someone supposedly “married” to someone else? Is it possible that she represents a “bride” who has gone off and consorted with other lovers and willingly received their seed despite her pledge of fidelity to her husband?
Now consider the article below. It is just one representation of many such instances occurring all over the world. More and more, those who claim to be followers of the Messiah are willingly and brazenly embracing and propagating the mixed message of tolerance and co-existence in direct defiance of God’s Word. Its bad enough that the world has swallowed the deadly potion of co-existence – “they were made drunk with the wine of her fornication” – but its another thing entirely when those who are alleged to be married to the Messiah do the same.
In the article below, an Anglican congregation in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada proclaimed on their church sign, “Jesus had two dads and he turned out just fine.” It has been verified that this was done to show support for gay rights and same sex marriage. I realize that the Anglican church isn’t really known for their unwavering support of Scriptural sovereignty or for their stand against unrighteousness and political correctness but, still, that doesn’t negate the point. They claim to be followers of Messiah (and many in the world will view them as such), yet, in this instance at least, they see no problem with misappropriating Messiah as an advocate for gay marriage.
We shouldn’t kid ourselves into thinking that this mixed mentality will never find its way into our evangelical churches or Hebrew Roots home groups. I can tell you from first hand experience it is already trying to worm its way into our fellowships and infest our congregations. Therefore, it is imperative that we study the Word with diligence and meditate upon its truths that we might rightly divide the word of truth; that we might stand against the ever-changing winds of doctrine. Its getting weird but that means its getting to be the right time to look up. Shalom.
