You are the same and Your years will have no end. (Psalm 102:27)
When I was a child, there were nights I would lay in bed and try to contemplate eternity. I would stare into the darkness and try to imagine what it would be like to know that there will always be a tomorrow. I can still recall how my mind would be overcome with the wonder of imagining a world without end. That would eventually take me into the realm of trying to imagine a Creator who is everywhere at all times, is all knowing and has always been and will always be — it is simply beyond comprehension. As it is written: “The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable” (Isaiah 40:28).
Juxtapose that with the emphasis of the previous devotion — all things created have a definite starting point and most things created are continually changing, deteriorating and facing certain death. The physical world may change and fade away but the Almighty God remains the same through the ages; the same God that Abraham walked before is the same God David praised in all the psalms he composed. The God that David, Isaiah and all the apostles served is the same God you and I serve today; He is the same yesterday, today and forever. As He said of Himself: “For I am the Lord, I do not change” (Malachi 3:6). That being so, we must conclude that His Word and His Will are eternal as well, meaning that it has not succumbed to the influence of the times. What He said in Genesis remains constant even if we are living in the era of the Revelation.
In other words, His instructions do not change with the times. Therefore, it is incumbent upon us — those who regard themselves as His children and servants — to bend in submission to His Will and His Word. In short, we are the ones who must change to conform to His purpose and not the other way around. Too many have attempted to twist and contort His Word to fit their narrative and agenda. They are, in my view, the modern day Laodiceans — people who see life and themselves one way when God sees them in a completely different way. All of this is to say that, as created beings, change is inevitable. What is to be determined, then, is how we will change — for the good, or for the worse? May it be that we always submit ourselves, willingly, to the Eternal and All-Powerful One that we may dwell with Him in a world without end.
