Sing to the Lord a new song! For He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory. (Psalm 98:1)

In the Scripture, references to God’s right hand typically signify His power, authority, and ability to do great and marvelous things on behalf of His people. This is acknowledged in the verse above and in many other passages. In short, Scripture firmly establishes that His righteous right hand upholds and preserves, and will in the end, deliver God’s people from their enemies. As it is written, “You will stretch out Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand will save me” (Psalm 138:7).

Scripture also affirms that at God’s right hand” is an established position of honor and authority, and identifies the One who will administer justice in the earth. As David wrote, “The Lord said to my Lord, ‘Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool’ … The Lord is at Your right hand; He shall execute kings in the day of His wrath” (Psalm 110:5). Even before Yeshua walked the earth, it was understood in Judaism that the One seated at God’s right hand was King Messiah; He was the One who would rule the nations in truth and righteousness.

It is not surprising then that Yeshua identified Himself in that manner, saying to the High Priest of Israel, You will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power” (Matthew 26:64). And let’s not forget that as Stephen was being stoned to death, he gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Yeshua standing at the right hand of God” (Acts 7:55). The point is, when we see references about the Right Hand of God, it is almost always signifying the One who would come, and by His own sacrifice, deliver the humble and contrite from the bondages of sin. Not only did He gain victory for Himself, but for us also, thus allowing us the privilege of, one day, singing a new song to Him in the Kingdom. Indeed, He has done marvelous things.

Blessings and Shalom,
