The Lord will record, when He registers the peoples: “This one was born there.” Selah. (Psalm 87:6)

The Bible tells us that, in the beginning of history, God determined the lands that were to allotted to the different nations. According to Moses, “The Most High divided their inheritance to the nations, when He separated the sons of Adam; He set the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the children of Israel” (Deuteronomy 32:8). Notice that the boundaries for other nations was relative to the number of His people, Israel, which is to say, everything He has done throughout history is predicated on His plan and purpose for His people.

That being said, no detail escapes His attention; from the beginning He has kept an account of all things and, in spite of man’s best efforts to thwart His plan, He has preserved those who call upon His Name. In the verse above, the psalmist reveals that God takes note of where each and every person is born. I would suggest that, not only does He record this information, He is the One who ordained it to be so. For example, it was preordained by the Will of God that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem Ephratah (Micah 5:2). Could it not also be possible that He knew exactly where and when each of us were to be born because He planned it to be so?

Why is this important to consider? Yeshua said that “a sparrow does not fall to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows” (Matthew 10:29-31). In other words, God has gone to great detail in order to invest considerable care and attention in each and everyone of us. If He cares to number the hairs of our head; if He ordains when and where we are born, then certainly He cares about my cares and concerns. He cares about my life and, because He knows the day of my departure, He continually prompts me to draw closer to Him in the days He has allotted me. As I said, nothing escapes His attention where His people are concerned and that should give us all great comfort.

Blessings and Shalom,
