Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your heart before Him. God is a refuge for us. Selah. (Psalm 62:8)
When I graduated from high school, I was presented with the opportunity to move out west on what I considered at that time to be a grand adventure. I didn’t stay out west too long — just long enough to determine that I preferred the south — but I have always been glad that I went. It’s not that I had such a grand adventure but it’s because forty-something years later, I don’t sit around regretting not going. In other words, I’m glad I didn’t give up on the idea of doing something that, at the time, seemed far-fetched and nearly impossible given my circumstances.
If you can appreciate that notion, then let’s apply it to this scenario: waiting for a promise to come to pass when everything seems to be working against it. I think it’s fair to say that all of us know what it’s like: waiting for the fruition of something promised when circumstances are screaming it will never happen. But remember: God’s purpose for His people has always included a promise that seems impossible, given to people who are stretched to believe against all odds. Abraham believed for a son when circumstances said it was absolutely impossible — but he didn’t give up. He believed God and it was accounted unto him as righteousness.
David said that we are to trust in the Lord at all times, and in those times when it gets hard to keep going, we are to pour out our heart to Him. No matter how difficult our situation may seem, we must keep in mind that our deliverance and redemption can come at any time. Even when there seems to be no glimmer of hope, never forget the words of David — trust the Lord at all times. Let’s not be that person who, at the end of our life, looks back with the regret of giving up on our promise too soon. Let’s be the one who can bear witness to the fact that God is our refuge and always keeps His promises.
Blessings and Shalom,
Bill
