Good Morning. 

So Jacob took a stone and set it up as a pillar. He said to his relatives, “Gather some stones.” So they took stones and piled them in a heap, and they ate there by the heap. Laban called it Jegar Sahadutha, and Jacob called it Galeed. (Genesis 31:45-47)

It is interesting that both parties referred to this pile of stones as “the heap of witness,” in Hebrew, Galeed. Over time this region would be referred to as Gilead and among its most famous citizens would be the prophet Elijah (1 Kings 17:1). That is interesting because Elijah, along with Moses, appeared with the Messiah on the mount of Transfiguration serving as a witness that He was the Son of God (Matthew 17:3). Consequently, many believe that Elijah will be one of the two witnesses mentioned in Revelation 11 who come at the end of days.

There are other connections between the heap of stones in Galeed and the story of Elijah. For instance, Jacob instructed his brethren to “gather stones.” At the confrontation with the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel, Elijah gathered the stones that had been scattered and repaired the altar of God (1 Kings 18:31). Jacob and Laban sat down to eat a covenantal meal with one another; it is believed that Elijah will appear at the time of Passover (a covenantal meal) to herald the coming of Messiah.

So spring boarding from yesterday’s thought that we, as living stones are to be His witnesses, it could be said that He is gathering us in preparation for what is about to happen in this world. There is a confrontation coming between the Truth and the Lie and people will have to determine who they are going to serve. Furthermore, because God has always worked through people, it could be concluded that those who hear His call to gather and to fulfill their mission as witnesses will be empowered by the Almighty to declare that Messiah is coming soon. In short, I believe that there are people who will come in the spirit and power of Elijah just as John the Baptist (Luke 1:17).

For years we have sung the song that says, “These are the days of Elijah; declaring the Word of the LORD.” Frankly I believe that to be prophetic and true. These ARE the days of Elijah and it is time for those who have been anointed with the spirit of Elijah to confront the prophets of Baal and bear witness to the fact that the God of Israel is the one and only God.
