Every place on which the sole of your foot treads shall be yours: from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the River Euphrates, even to the Western Sea, shall be your territory. No man shall be able to stand against you; the Lord your God will put the dread of you and the fear of you upon all the land where you tread. (Deuteronomy 11:24-25)

In these two verses, two primary points are made. First, Moses hints at the vastness of what God considers to be the land that belongs to Israel. That it stretches to the Euphrates River speaks to the fact that the fulness of this promise has not yet been attained. Most scholars believe this will not be realized until the Messianic era. What some overlook is that the “wilderness” would also include parts of ancient Midian — where Mount Sinai is located — which is present day Saudi Arabia. In other words, the land promised to Israel will encompass a good bit of the Middle East including territory that certain nations antagonistic toward Israel now claim as their own.

The second point, and for us the more prominent, is the fact that God said He would give to Israel all the land upon which the sole of their foot had walked. Everywhere they had wandered, including the times they felt they were at the end of their rope, served a purpose. Their presence in those places, as they were being led by the Presence of the Almighty, left a spiritual imprint that remains to this day in spite of the fact that nations, kingdoms and governments claim sovereignty over those places. God has not forgotten and will bring to pass all that He has spoken because He knows exactly where His people are and have been.

Therefore, though we say this with no intent to claim property in the natural, it is important to recognize that everywhere we go as we are led by His Spirit, we can and should leave a spiritual imprint. Everywhere we set our foot should be, in the Spirit, laying claim to territory not measured in acres but in the lives of those who have been enslaved to the kingdom of darkness. In other words, we are to take territory away from the Adversary rather than cede it to him. As we move forward against the enemy, let us remember the promise given above: no one will be able to stand against us, not even the gates of hell. God Himself will put dread and fear upon those who oppose His purposes. So let us be about His business and leave spiritual imprints all over the land for the glory of God.

Blessings and Shalom,
