Then I said to you, “Do not be terrified, or afraid of them. The Lord your God, who goes before you, He will fight for you, according to all He did for you in Egypt before your eyes.” (Deuteronomy 1:29-30)

Once again, I think it is important to remember that the words spoken to Israel of old are just as relevant now as they were then. With so much negativity and wickedness in the world, it is hard not to pay attention to it, unfortunately sometimes at the expense of what God has commanded us to be. We are to be a light to the nations and we cannot fulfill that if our light is not placed in a prominent and noticeable position. By that I mean, we are to be a city on a hill that gives light to all and not allow circumstances to persuade us to place our light in a secret, hidden place (Luke 11:33).

If we are to “possess the Land” and fulfill our purpose, sooner or later, we must face the giants and the fortified cities. More to the point, we must learn to trust God regardless of what situation we find ourselves in. It was a lack of trust that kept that generation out of the land and in the wilderness. We must not repeat the mistakes of the past even though we are living in unprecedented times. Yes, Yeshua foretold of the perils of the last days with the warning to “take heed that you are not deceived.” At the same time, He reminded us of what Moses reminded the children of Israel: “Do not be terrified” because He is with us (Luke 21:9).

In fact, He goes on to say that many of the trials and tests the end time generation will face are meant to be and will serve as “an opportunity for you to be a witness (Luke 21:13). That is, indeed, why we are here — to be a light and to boldly bear witness to the sovereignty of the One, True God and His Messiah. We are to “occupy” until He comes — not until we think He is about to come! Therefore, the signs of the times are not our signal to batten down the hatches and sit on our hands. It is the signal to get about the Father’s business and shine as never before. As antagonism toward God builds and persecution against His people intensifies, remember, “Do not be terrified, or afraid of them. The Lord your God fights for you.”

Blessings and Shalom,
