It was on this day in 1936 that Germany and Italy entered an alliance with one another which would lead, in part, to World War II. Later, Japan also entered this alliance, forming the Axis Powers. Unfortunately, this alliance would lead to the greatest conflict the world had ever before seen. However, according to the Messiah, there is coming a time unlike anything the world has yet to see. It will surpass the carnage and the atrocities of WWII. That’s hard to imagine, but that’s what Yeshua foretold.

“For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.” (Matthew 24:21-22)

There have been many generations in times past who thought that, when observing all the events going on around them, they were most likely the generation that Yeshua was referring to. In fact, those who were alive to see the rise of Hitler and Mussolini probably thought that they were witnessing the things that Messiah described.

As we look around and see the state of the world today, it’s easy to imagine that we are the  generation that will see these things come to pass. However, Yeshua taught that upon observing these things, His followers should be provoked to focus on why we are here, not on the signs necessarily. We have a tendency to fear or revere whatever or whoever we focus upon. So then, witnessing the signs of the times should not cause us to be overcome with fear and dread but focused on our mandate to be a light. Not only that, Isaiah warned that if we are going to fear anyone or dread anything, that it should be God and no other (Isaiah 8:12-13).

If we are the generation that He referred to, our mission remains the same as every other generation before us – to be a light. We are a city set upon a hill that should not be hidden. We are placed here to shine in the darkness, in spite of the circumstances surrounding us. And if it turns out that we are not that generation, our mission remains the same. We are placed here to be light.

With that in mind, despite what may happen in the days ahead, let us remember that He is for us, and so who can be against us? He’s with us and will never forsake us. The One who dwells in us is greater than any person, political party, kingdom, agency or institution. The Almighty alone is worthy of fear and reverence and, so, let us focus on Him and His purposes. If we do, then we will truly live up to our call to be His light in this darkened world.

Shalom.
