Today is the last day in the month of Elul and it was on this day that tradition believes God created the sea creatures and fowls of the air. The Bible says:

So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” (Genesis 1:21-22)

Not only did He create them, but He blessed them and commanded them to multiply after their kind. This is very interesting because most evolutionists believe that life began in the seas. When it comes to living creatures, it would appear that they are right. However, they very quickly go  off the rails when they extrapolate that into the belief that some marine animal climbed out of the water, drug itself up onto the earth and morphed into a human being.

Obviously, we don’t believe that because this theory disputes what the Scripture tells us about the creation of man. But, once again, we see that, true to his nature and methodology, the Adversary has successfully coaxed people into rejecting the truth and, by default, embrace a lie. It’s important to note that most every convincing lie will always contain a measure of truth. The measure of truth, here, would be that science believes that life began in the seas — the Scripture validates that. However, the lie is that what began in the sea drug itself up onto the earth and became a man.

What we need to see in all of this is that the Adversary is very good at what he does. He always takes a measure of truth and blends it with a falsehood. If he didn’t do it that way, it’s less likely that most people would fall for the deception. In other words, most lies have a thread of plausibility running through them which is why so many people buy into the lie. And though mankind has been deceived by the master illusionist and father of lies, Scripture tells us that people who reject the truth, do not have an excuse for doing so. Paul wrote:

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.” (Romans 1:18-23)

In short Paul argued that, even though people know that there’s only one true God, they refuse to accept that truth, because to acknowledge His existence means they must acknowledge His sovereignty and authority. To acknowledge His sovereignty and authority means they will have to have to accept His laws and instructions. So, if a person doesn’t want to live the way that the Creator has instructed us to live, the easiest thing to do is to pretend He doesn’t exist. But, as Paul said, that doesn’t change the facts and they are left with no excuse.

For those who do acknowledge His sovereignty and His authority to establish all law and the code of conduct —  to those who function according to His design — are blessed and told to multiply. I choose to be blessed and I desire that what He has done in my life for the good would  multiplied in my children’s lives and in future generations. And so, my prayer today is that all of us would understand what it is we’ve been called to do and walk faithfully in it. All of us are called to sanctify His name, to stand for truth and righteousness, and to proclaim that truth, as best we know how, with His strength and guidance. Our purpose is to be the light and to propagate the light throughout His Creation.

Shalom.
