Good Morning.

I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none will make you afraid; I will rid the land of evil beasts, and the sword will not go through your land. (Leviticus 26:6)

Obedience to God brings so much more than temporal blessings. Yes, it is nice to have rain to water the earth so that one’s plantings may thrive and that we can prosper. It is nice to have abundance in the bank account so that all the bills can get paid and, from time to time, a person can do something “fun.” It is nice to know that the cupboard will always have what we need to sustain us from day to day. But it is a blatant fact that many who possess temporal prosperity lead miserable lives. In short, they have no peace — no shalom — in their life.

I’m often asked by people, “How can I pray for you? Is there something in particular I should pray?” My answer is always the same: “Pray for peace. Pray for shalom.” There are very few things in this world that are more valuable that being at peace — being whole in mind, body and spirit. To know that all is well in spite of what might be swirling around you is much more precious than all the silver and gold one’s might can muster. According to this passage, there is only one way to attain this — obedience to the Almighty.

And so, if our desire is to have shalom in our home, then we must set our hearts on walking upright before our Creator. We must keep our minds fixed on His goodness, His Kingdom and His Word. So then, let us close today’s devotional on this important point: “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You” (Isaiah 26:3).

Blessings and Shalom,
