Good Morning.

And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night. He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people. (Exodus 13:21-22)

This must have been an amazing sight to behold; a cloud that towered upward into the sky that, apparently, fanned out at the top so as to provide shelter from the sun during the day. At night, this same cloud was ablaze with the Glory of God so that they could be protected from the desert chill and be given light to travel during the darkness. It must have been something to see.

Though we may not have such a spectacular visual manifestation of the Almighty to lead our way, nevertheless, we serve the same God as they and are given the same daily care as those who left Egypt so long ago. If we are His, He still goes before us to clear the way for us. He gives us shelter and provision and, most importantly, illuminates the path that we are to walk if we are carefully listening to His counsel. The Psalmist said:

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105)

Just as surely as their path was illuminated by the pillar of fire, our journey through life has direction when we allow His Word to guide us. We may not be able to see every step we must take, as we would like to, but He will show us the next one and every one as we follow Him. And as for what lies ahead in the darkness, still unknown to us, we can be  assured that our God goes before us to prepare the way. Let us rest in this truth and be at peace.

Blessings and Shalom,
