Good Morning.
Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, “The dreams of Pharaoh are one; God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do.” (Genesis 41:25)
After hearing the dreams related to him, Joseph began to tell Pharaoh the meaning with this understanding — the dreams weren’t separate and disconnected; they were saying the same thing. To underscore this point, Joseph repeats this later when he said:
“And the dream was repeated to Pharaoh twice because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass. (Genesis 41:32)
First of all, we should note that Joseph was already familiar with the concept that God affirms what He is going to do by repeating Himself. In other words, he knew that everything has to be established by the mouth of two or more witnesses (Deuteronomy 19:15), and in this case, it was two separate but related dreams. Jospeh was familiar with this because God had shown him something about his own future in similar fashion — two different dreams saying the same thing.
It is also important to understand that the witnesses have to agree with one another. Just having two or more witnesses doesn’t necessarily establish something as true unless those witnesses agree. In this case, both dreams spoke of times of plenty followed by a time of lack. That they agreed resonated with Joseph who was then able to give he king an answer of peace that, in time, was verified to be true.
Where you and I are concerned, consider these concepts when we feel we have received something from the LORD. If it is from Him, there will be some corroborating evidence from somewhere or someone. Furthermore, the second and third witnesses will agree with the first because, as the prophet Amos asked, “Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?” (Amos 3:3).
Finally we want to look at this concept from a different angle, and that is, what happens when two or more of God’s people come together to agree upon something. Messiah tells us that when this occurs great things can take place.
“Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:19-20)
May His Presence be felt in your life today and may the promise that He has given you be confirmed by multiple witnesses. Amen.
Blessings and Shalom,
Bill
