Good Morning.
“Your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.” (Genesis 28:14-15)
It is interesting to note that, as far as we know, Jacob never traveled to the west or north, only to the south (Egypt) and to the east (Syria). This is interesting because God promised to “keep” him (literally “guard” him) wherever he went, including these directions. He promised that wherever he went, God would visit him and bring him back into the land promised to him and to his descendants.
The point is this: the promise was not just to the man Jacob but to all those who are part of the family of faith known as Israel. In other words, this promise given so many centuries ago was for all time and includes those of us who are in Messiah. The same God who spoke to Jacob has promised to be with us wherever we go and not leave us until He has performed His will for us and through us. Years after this promise was given, Yeshua said to His disciples:
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
Let us take comfort in this promise: He is always with us and has always been with us even when we didn’t realize it or regard it. It is a comfort to know that our God is faithful to all His people throughout the generations. He has been faithful to us and that is how we know that He will be faithful to our children and to their children.
