Good Morning.

Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. And behold, the Lord stood above it and said: “I am the Lord God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants.” (Genesis 28:12-13)

When I was a kid I imagined that, in his dream, Jacob saw an extremely long extension ladder soaring into the heavens and angels were climbing up and down on this ladder. Only later did I discover that the “ladder” was actually a staircase that formed a bridge of some sort between heaven and earth. Somewhat reminiscent of the dramatic scene at Mount Sinai, God appeared at the top of this staircase continually dispatching angels to the earth and back to fulfill their mission on His behalf.

Throughout the Bible we see that God often sends angels to perform His will in the earth, whether delivering an important message, ministering to those in crisis or defending His people from their enemies. In fact, the archangel Michael is assigned to keep watch over and defend the people of Israel against the Adversary. The Bible also hints that we all have angels who are assigned to us and, at times, we may have even entertained them unwittingly.

All of this is to simply demonstrate that our Father commonly directs earthly affairs through these ministering spirits. More specifically, He interjects the supernatural element into our lives to assist and comfort us as we navigate this journey called life. It is a comfort to know that our Father cares enough about us to assign a heavenly being to help us along the way and, as Jacob realized, to know that we are always under the watchful eye of the Most High God.

Blessings and Shalom,
