Good Morning.

“And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants also could be numbered. Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you.” (Genesis 13:16-17)

When God makes a promise, He can get very specific. To the man who had no children, the Almighty promised that his descendants would be as numerous as the “dust of the earth.” The question is, does this refer to physical descendants or is there something more here? No doubt there are many people in the earth who are physically descended from Abraham but it is important to understand that, according to Scripture, the true children of Abraham follow in the great man’s footsteps. Yeshua said this to some of his physical descendants:

“If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham.” (John 8:39)

What are the works of Abraham? Put simply, he heard God and he obeyed God because he believed God. Therefore, using Abraham as the standard, Paul makes it very clear that the people of God are a people of faith and “Abraham’s children” are those who emulate his example.

“Just as Abraham ‘believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness,’ therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham.” (Galatians 3:6-7)

So then, we can conclude that all those who have come to faith in the God of Israel through the Messiah are evidence that God has kept His promise to Abraham. There are countless millions who have chosen to follow the One and Only God — the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Moreover, the seed of Abraham, like the dust of the earth, are scattered throughout the earth. Through His people, God influences and interacts with countless more souls and will right up until the return of Christ. Let us make certain that we are doing the “works of Abraham” and exhibiting a faith that provokes others to call upon the One True God.

Blessings and Shalom,
