Good Morning.
Now the sons of Noah who went out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. And Ham was the father of Canaan. These three were the sons of Noah, and from these the whole earth was populated. (Genesis 9:18-19)
It is amazing to consider that the world’s seven billion plus people come from these three men. It is believed that most of Asia, including the Middle East, is descended from Shem; most of Africa is descended from Ham and most Europeans are descended from Japheth. When you think about it, all of us owe a certain debt of gratitude to Noah for his faithfulness and obedience and to his sons for obeying the command to “be fruitful and multiply.”
This demonstrates that there are long term ramifications for our existence and, most importantly, our obedience. It is our duty to instill within our children and grandchildren the importance of walking in covenant with the Almighty so that they and future generations may benefit from that most important of relationships. No doubt this is why we are admonished to teach God’s ways to our children “diligently… and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up” (Deuteronomy 6:7).
From just three came multitudes of people, most of which are, unfortunately, not walking in the ways of the Master. So then, let us be diligent to teach our families the right way to live, that is by the Word of the LORD. Believe it or not, just doing our part in our family can make a world of difference.
