Good Morning.

Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”— therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. (Genesis 3:22-23)

These verses strongly suggest that mankind was created to live forever — but only in an incorruptible state. When Adam ate the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge he was no longer considered incorruptible because he had ingested a corruptible seed. The Creator makes it clear that eating from the Tree of Knowledge and the Tree of Life is unacceptable. When we turn away from the source of Eternal Life and embrace that which renders death, we can’t expect that there won’t be consequences. In the book of Revelation, the Messiah addresses this same issue when He said to Laodicea:

“You are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.” (Revelation 3:15-16)

Being lukewarm is to say they had mixed hot and cold together; something the Messiah was unwilling to accept. It almost seems as if He was saying that He preferred them to either be totally hot (righteous) or totally cold (wicked) — at least then, everyone would know what they were. But to mix the two together was unacceptable and deceptive — to those they were to be witnesses to and to themselves. That is so repulsive to the Master that He said, “I will vomit you out of My mouth.”

This message still stands: God’s people are challenged to live a holy life; we are not to mix the holy with the profane. We are called to be a set apart people who no longer eat from the tree that renders death. Thankfully we have been born again and given access to the Tree of Life (the Messiah) whereby we obtain Eternal Life. Let us walk in that blessing with faithfulness, even as He has been faithful to us.

Blessings and Shalom,
