Good Morning.

And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. (Genesis 3:8)

The promised enlightenment the serpent had convinced them of did not bring Adam and Eve happiness; instead it resulted in shame and fear. It caused them to see their nakedness and awakened the evil inclination within them. By experience, they saw how good could be used for evil. Their nakedness had not changed, necessarily, but their perception of it had.

In the end, things didn’t turn out the way they might have anticipated. Yes, they did come to understand good and evil, but they must have realized that the fruit that had looked so enticing before had brought them misery and death. In other words, they realized firsthand just why the Creator had told them to avoid that particular tree.

Have we ever sinned and later thought, “It was worth it”? We all know that there is often an initial thrill and satisfaction that comes with appeasing our flesh. But if we have been around any length of time, we also know the bitterness that eventually accompanies our careless actions. Fruit that looks enticing in one moment is often loathed after biting into it. Therefore let us take to heart the words of James who said:

“Each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above.” (James 1:14-17)

Our Father will provide everything we need including instruction in what to stay away from. Let us abide by His Word so that we don’t have to hide ourselves from His Presence.

Blessings and Shalom,
