The Bible tells us that Solomon, in his later years, did not follow in his father, David’s, footsteps but began to do evil in the sight of the LORD, specifically, building a high place dedicated to Molech “the abomination of the people of Ammon” (1 Kings 11:7).

Later, God, through the prophet Jeremiah, tells us:

“And they built the high places of Baal which are in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire to Molech, which I did not command them, nor did it come into My mind that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.” (Jeremiah 32:35).

The valley mentioned in Jeremiah, is called, in Hebrew, Gai Hinnom; the Greek transliteration of the Hebrew is Gehenna, a term now viewed as being synonymous with hell. That connection seems apropos to me because that is just what this place would have been – hell on earth. I cannot fathom how anyone of any era in history could allow their innocent child to be slaughtered for some strange belief and then to allow it’s little body to burned in those hellish fires. My bet is that most anyone in this day and time – believer or not – would consider that to be barbaric.

However, let us fast forward 2500 years from that day to ours and, lo and behold; people still allow their children to be slaughtered for some strange belief – in this age it is called “reproductive rights” – except this time the slaughter occurs before the baby can actually be born. And if the travesty of abortion weren’t enough, now we are learning that some of the tissue from these aborted children is being used as fuel in various power plants. Think of it: their mutilated little bodies are being burned in fires so that we can run our refrigerator! It’s ghastly to consider.

In short – and I don’t think it is a stretch to say this – we are literally causing our sons and daughters to pass through the fire and be offered to Molech. Maybe Molech looks different in this case, but as far as I’m concerned, the function and the outcome is just the same. It leaves me nearly speechless except to say this: there is no doubt in my mind that God, in His way and in His time, will avenge the slaughter of these innocents and recompense the cold, barbaric manner in which these butchered little bodies are being discarded. Long ago, He said:

I will set My face against that man, and will cut him off from his people, because he has given some of his descendants to Molech, to defile My sanctuary and profane My holy name.” (Leviticus 20:3)

As maddening as this is, we are reminded that vengeance on our part is not justified; that belongs to the LORD. Our part is to pray for our nation, it’s leaders and its citizens to turn from this barbaric practice and end this industry of murder known as Abortion. Moreover, when the opportunity is there, we need to reach out to these young pregnant women with love and meaningful aid before they end one innocent life and scar another – theirs’ – for the rest of their years. I’m tempted to say more but the articles below, in my opinion, speak for themselves. God help us!
