Recently, one school district in Kansas decided to promote the five pillars of Islam on a huge wall display in a Wichita elementary school. Their justification for this action was that the display was just one component of an overall introduction to the major religions of the world, including Christianity and Judaism.
My first problem with this prominently displayed (and uncontested by the ACLU) promotion of Islam is the endless list of schools and other public buildings across America that have been made, through court order, to remove the Ten Commandments or a copy of the Lord’s Prayer or anything else deemed “offensive.”
My second problem with this display is the actual five pillars of Islam.
- Shahada
- Salat (Prayer)
- Saum (Fasting)
- Zakat (Charity)
- Hajj (Pilgrimage)
As you can see, some of these “pillars” convey similar concepts that we find in the Bible; that would be considered a good thing by some. There are some distinctions, of course. Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca, is exclusive to Islam and is intended to establish this Arab city as the most holy city on earth. This, of course, contests the Bible’s declaration that Jerusalem is the city of the great King. In other words, the five pillars of Islam contain both “good” and “evil.” Sounds familiar doesn’t it?
The most evil component of this mixed message is the first “pillar” – Shahada. Let me briefly explain what that is. It is the Islamic proclamation that “There is no true God except Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.” Let me be adamantly clear: Allah is not just another name for God. Allah and the God of Israel ARE NOT one and the same. For that to be true the God of the Bible would have to be schizophrenic.
In other words, the first pillar of Islam promoted in this elementary school is the confession that Allah is the one and only true God, that Allah alone is worthy of worship, that Allah alone is the sovereign lord who does what he wills with whoever he wills. It means that all his rules and laws found in the Koran are to be followed – including those that call for the death of “infidels.”
Consequently, Shahada proclaims that a belief in the God of Israel and the Messiah Y’shua is false. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the spirit of Antichrist according to 1 John 2:22. Let me remind you that, with very few exceptions, Islamic suicide bombers and terrorists will, just before their murderous acts, proclaim, “Allahu Akhbar” – literally, “Allah, He is greater!” Greater than who?
For the five pillars of Islam to be boldly promoted in an elementary school in the heartland of America is frightening, maddening but not surprising. Kansas is, of course, in the breadbasket of America; a state full of corn and wheat fields. Where else would tares be sown but in a field of wheat? Nevertheless, don’t hang your head but lift it up – our redemption is at hand!
