All of you stand today before the Lord your God: your leaders and your tribes and your elders and your officers, all the men of Israel, your little ones and your wives. (Deuteronomy 29:10-11)

As this and the subsequent verses reveal, the entire congregation of Israel had assembled to hear these final words offered by their leader, Moses. Native born and strangers were there as well as the leaders and those who served others. The little ones, as well, were included in this address because, when their time came, they would be expected to carry on the mandate given to Israel. And so the point is, the nation was assembled in its entirety to demonstrate that, even though people were divided into different categories, everyone had a responsibility in the congregation.

No one should ever think that, just because they do not serve in a leadership capacity, their contribution to the congregation has no bearing on the overall wellness of the congregation. No one should think that no one will notice if their limited role is ignored and their duties left undone. As I have shared with our congregation over and again — the congregation will only be as strong as the weakest among us. That means, then, everyone is expected to do what they can and to uphold their responsibility.

Obviously, not everyone will preach and teach; not everyone will sing and play an instrument. Nevertheless, everyone of us has a gift and a call to serve our Master and it behooves us all to find that place in His Kingdom whereby we may serve Him. As Messiah taught in the Parable of the Talents, some have greater abilities than others but that doesn’t matter necessarily — everyone is given a “talent” to work with. Though the task may seem small in our eyes, our contribution to the Kingdom is important to Him — and He will notice if our part is missing. Therefore, it is advisable to use the gifts we have as energetically as we can because He will not look favorably on those who bury their “talent” in the backyard. We must be diligent to be about our Father’s business.

Blessings and Shalom,
