Good Morning.

So Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before them all these words which the Lord commanded him. Then all the people answered together and said, “All that the Lord has spoken we will do.” (Exodus 19:7-8)

As they gathered at the base of Mount Sinai, everyone’s attitude was positive and willing to do all that God had spoken. Of course, it could also be argued that they agreed to something before they found out what was expected of them. That is important, I think, because in time we see that they didn’t really mean it — not with all of their heart, at least. We can know that to be true because, later, God made this statement to Moses concerning their commitment to do all that the LORD had spoken:

“Oh, that they had such a heart in them that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!” (Deuteronomy 5:29)

In other words, even though He heard what they said, He knew what was really in their hearts. So often we find that, in certain situations, our mouths profess things that our hearts are committed to. Maybe that’s one of the reasons the Messiah said, “The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.” Many of us would like to think that we would completely committed to anything God required of us. In reality, however, many of us are like Peter: he boldly professed that he was willing to die for Messiah even if everyone else turned away. We all know how that turned out.

The point, today, is this: we need to be the kind of people who are truly prepared to do all that the LORD requires of us. What comes out of our mouth needs to be a true reflection of what is in our heart. Our hearts need to be set aside as an exclusive abode for the Most High and nothing or no one else — including ourselves. In the last days, there will be a select group of people who, according to the Bible, overcome the Adversary by the “blood of the Lamb, the word of the their testimony” and because they “did not love their lives to the death” (Revelation 12:11). I want to be one of those people; do you?

Blessings and Shalom,
