Good Morning.
Now it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt and all its wise men. And Pharaoh told them his dreams, but there was no one who could interpret them for Pharaoh. (Genesis 41:8)
As we have noted before, it is interesting to consider that two of the most prophetic dreams recorded in Scripture were given to men unassociated with the God of Israel. Pharaoh was given the dream detailed here and, many years later, Nebuchadnezzar was given a very important dream as well. In both cases, the men were unable to find anyone within their own courts to interpret them. Also in both cases, it turns out that the only ones who could interpret them were Hebrews who were in the right place at the right time.
It is also interesting that, in both cases, the dreams came at the end of a two year period and both monarchs were troubled in their spirit. Of Nebuchadnezzar it says:
In the second year (at the end of two years) of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; his spirit was troubled and his sleep left him. (Daniel 2:1)
Something like this can’t be coincidental (seeing that there are no coincidences in Scripture) and so we are left to ponder what is the connection and what meaning does it hold for us today? Here are some thoughts.
First, the Bible establishes that “a day with the LORD is as a thousand years” (2 Peter 3:8). In Hosea 6, the prophet predicted that a great revival and restoration for God’s people would begin “after two days” (Hosea 6:2), which is understood to mean after two thousand years. Considering that Messiah’s death, burial and resurrection was two thousand years ago, I would suggest that we are living in that period that Hosea spoke of. It is a time when the nations must soon relinquish their control over God’s people that they may be restored to Him. And that’s where the dreams may come in.
Through the dreams, God troubled the spirit of the two men who held control over the destiny of God’s people, politically speaking. They were both compelled to call upon the man of God and, in the end, looked favorably upon them and upon their countrymen. Is it possible that we are living in the day when the leaders of the world are about to be visited in their sleep? Is God troubling their spirit with things they don’t understand? If this is likely to happen then it behooves us to walk closer to the Almighty than ever before. You just never know who He is going to call on to stand before kings and leaders in order to speak into their lives and later the course of history. Be prepared!
Blessings and Shalom,
Bill
