Good Morning.
Now Jacob loved Rachel; so he said, “I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter.” And Laban said, “It is better that I give her to you than that I should give her to another man. Stay with me.” So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed only a few days to him because of the love he had for her. (Genesis 29:18-20)
Rachel must have been something else for Jacob to make such a commitment. That he considered the seven years as only as if they were but a few days is astounding. Even if he was initially attracted to her outward appearance, there must have been something else about her that resonated with him. Say what you will, but to work tirelessly for seven years just to marry the woman you love speaks of Jacob’s integrity and his commitment to keep his promises. This is a a tribute that we must all strive to emulate.
Anyone can make a promise but it takes a devoted person to keep that promise especially when things get tough. In today’s world, if circumstances get too difficult we quit, we resign or we divorce. Perseverance and dedication are qualities that going by the wayside far too often. Unfortunately for those who are quick to throw in the towel, they are not going to make it in the days ahead, at least not according to what the Messiah said.
“But he who endures to the end shall be saved.” (Matthew 24:13)
Quitters won’t make it. The halfhearted will come up short. Only those who are deeply in love with their Bridegroom will have the tenacity to stick it out until the end. With all my heart, I desire to be among that remnant of people who overcome this world that I may enjoy the company of His Presence throughly eternity. I know you do as well, so let us set our focus on our first love and remain steadfast in our commitment to Him.
Blessings and Shalom,
Bill
