Good Morning.
“Now as for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried at a good old age. But in the fourth generation they shall return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.” (Genesis 15:15-16)
There is something in this passage that is frequently overlooked. That is the incredible blessing of knowing that your life will end in peace. So many have passed without that blessing. In all probability, most of those suffered the consequence of life choices that were never resolved or overcome. Some passed being the victim of other’s choices. Whatever the reason, it is very sad to consider that, at the end of our struggles here on earth, passing into eternity is not always peaceful.
For Abraham, the promise was a comfort and was, no doubt, predicated on choices he had made — the most important, of course, was to serve the Almighty with all his heart and soul. Furthermore, he would leave this life knowing that his descendants would be guided back into the land that had been promised to him. True, he wouldn’t live to see it but he could be confident that it would occur. Certainly this gave him peace for the rest of his journey.
As for you and I, we have opportunity to take steps now that could result in such a blessing. Whatever choices we have made in the past, there is always hope and the potential for reconciliation and resolution. Decisions we make today can pay dividends in the future. Those who are at the end of their life often feel the greatest regrets about what they haven’t done as opposed to what they did do. Where you and I are concerned, let’s take the necessary action in order to plant the seeds that blossom into peace — for today and tomorrow.
Blessings and Shalom,
Bill
