All the earth shall worship You and sing praises to You. They shall sing praises to Your name. Selah. (Psalm 66:4)
When the nations gathered in Babel to build a tower emblematic of their resistance towards God’s rule, the Creator confused their languages which resulted in the nations spreading out to inhabit the earth. Nimrod and his fellow rebels decided to gather together and “make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth” (Genesis 11:4). But God intended that the nations would populate the earth, and so in the end, God got His way — although it may have necessitated the confounding of the languages.
In contrast to that event, there is a prophecy which says, “I will restore to the peoples a pure language, that they all may call on the name of the Lord, to serve Him with one accord” (Zephaniah 3:9). This is a prophecy that describes how things will be when God restores the world back to the way it was supposed to be — before the Tower of Babel; before the fall of man and his exile from the Garden. This is the day Peter referred to when he encouraged his countrymen to repent so that “times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send Yeshua the Messiah … whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began” (Acts 3:19-21).
The long and the short of it is that, there is coming a day when God’s original intent for His Creation, particularly mankind, will come to fruition. We will no longer be divided by politics, language and culture but, with one voice and in one accord, the nations will worship the One God as one people. In that day, all men will lift their voices in praise and adoration of the King of Kings. For now, it is left to you and me, as His people, to exalt His Name among the nations though they do not yet recognize His glory. But even if you and I refused to do this — which we will not — the rocks would cry and sing praises to His Name. As has been said by many and for a long time, we shouldn’t allow a rock to take our place. So then, let us make a joyful shout to God and declare His wonderful works.
Blessings and Shalom,
Bill
