Truly my soul silently waits for God; from Him comes my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved. (Psalm 62:1-2)
In this day and time, so many people are guilty of looking to a person as a means of salvation. For instance, in America, people put their faith in a political figure or celebrities and entertainers. The bottom line is, far too many people who want someone to come along and make their situation better look in the wrong direction; we look to other beings that are just as flawed and just as fallen as we are. Yet, because of their stature in society, we convince ourselves that, somehow, they are the means by which life can be improved.
David knew better than to buy into this fantasy. If anyone had the motivation to seek relief and assistance from his fellowman, it was David. However, he realized that there was only One who could deliver him from his situation, and so, he resigned himself to wait — not with grumbling and complaining — but with silence. Quietly, he waited for the Lord to move on his behalf at the preordained time. That doesn’t mean he didn’t struggle through the process, but he realized that his situation was such that no man had the ability or authority to deliver him and establish him as the leader of the nation. In his resolve, he determined that he would not be shaken by his circumstances; he would continue to persevere because God was his rock and salvation.
If we are to overcome in these last days, then we must learn perseverance which, in turn, means we must have confidence that our perseverance will be rewarded with victory. To place that kind of confidence in any man or woman is futile and foolish. We must be as David — resolved to rest in the belief that God, our strong tower and salvation, will keep us in the midst of the trial. Not only will He keep us safe from our adversaries, but He will establish us to do what we have been called to do. Until that day comes, we must calmly wait for His timing and, as we do, grow and mature into the person we are destined to be. If God rewarded David for his patience and perseverance, He will do the same for you and me.
Blessings and Shalom,
Bill
