Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works which You have done; and Your thoughts toward us cannot be recounted to You in order. If I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered. (Psalm 40:5)

Let us begin today’s thoughts by considering something that should be obvious: as far as God is concerned, both natural and miraculous events are the same. In other words, because He controls both with equal authority and can execute either with ease, it is unlikely that He distinguishes them as we do. It is we, earthbound humans with limited understanding, who view some events as natural while others we regard as supernatural. The Creator, however, can cause the sun to stand still in the heavens (Joshua 10:13)) just as easily as He can command the sun to rise and set according to the natural order of things.

Just as important is another fact that should be obvious to us: He does all — things considered to be natural and those that are considered to be miraculous — for our sake. Think of it this way: the same One who delivered Israel from Pharaoh’s chariots by splitting a sea is the same One who provided their daily bread in the desert. We don’t acknowledge this as often as we should but those things we tend to take for granted, because they are deemed as natural occurrences, are no less a demonstration of His goodness to us than the miracles He performs on our behalf. Taking that into account, if you start totaling up all the wonderful works He does for us, you will quickly find yourself trying to number the innumerable.

The point is, it is impossible to calculate all that God has done or will do for us, nor can we valuate His wonderful works in human terms — it is all overwhelming. Add to this the most precious gift He could ever present us with, which is, eternal life through the offering of His Son on behalf of our transgressions. Suffice it to say, God is infinite in every way we can imagine and, most likely, in ways that we have not imagined. No doubt, there are expressions of His goodness to us that we aren’t even aware of which now brings us to our concluding thought. What does He ask of us in return for all He has done? He simply wants us to love Him with all of our heart, soul and strength. May we all strive to show Him the gratitude He deserves by giving Him all of our devotion.

Blessings and Shalom,
