How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings. They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house. (Psalm 36:7-8)
There is no doubt that the Almighty manages His Creation in spite of the fact that mankind does everything imaginable to disrupt and destroy. Still, the principles and laws He established in the beginning continue to function as He designed them to do, sometimes to the chagrin of those who wish to argue His non-existence. It is also clear to me that, among the different components within His Creation, none gets more attention and care than mankind. In spite of our collective rebellion and disobedience, He continues to allow all of us to benefit from the natural world that He brought into existence.
And while all are blessed to some degree by His goodness, none are blessed more than those who place their trust in Him. As followers of the Messiah, we are promised much more than what this physical world has to offer because our confidence is not in the created but in the Creator. We who acknowledge the sovereignty of the Most High are invited to come into His Presence and rest beneath His wings, which is to say, we are allowed to have a taste of Heaven here on earth. Though we exist and function in this physical world, being in His Presence means that we are not bound by the limitations of this earth as others are — we have a heavenly source. As it is written, “I will open for you the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing” (Malachi 3:10).
The world He created has a lot to offer us in terms of what we need to exist — i.e. the ability to grow food, to build houses, etc. But this physical world cannot provide for us the things we need in order to truly live; that only comes by His Presence, or as David said, “under the shadow of His wings.” The point is there is so much more to the goodness of God than what we have heretofore experienced. David said, His mercy to us is precious, in fact, it is more precious that any of us have imagined. It is as Paul said, as he quoted Isaiah: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9). Though we cannot see them all just yet, we know they are real, and so, we trust in Him.
Blessings and Shalom,
Bill
