By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. (Psalm 33:6)
Scripture clearly establishes the fact that the Universe is not the result of happenstance or some cosmic anomaly; Almighty God spoke everything that is into existence. In the Creation account, no less than ten times, it is written, “And God said…” with the result being certain components of the the Creation came into being. The writer of Hebrews said, “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible” (Hebrews 11:3). That this world and the heavens above remain in their assigned place, continuing to function as they do, is because His Word has ordained it.
I have always been intrigued that cosmologists (those who study the universe) believe the universe is comprised primarily of something they have dubbed “dark energy.” Their observations of the cosmos have led them to conclude that this invisible force, not only makes up the majority of what exists in the universe but is, in their minds anyway, the cosmic glue that holds everything together. Furthermore, this invisible energy is most likely connected to what caused the universe to come into existence in the first place, not to mention that it continues to provoke the universe’s constant expansion.
It seems more than obvious to me that this so called dark energy — that which keeps the universe in tact — is the Word of God. Though science cannot see it they can most definitely observe its effects upon Creation. By their own testimony, were it not for this force, the universe would cease to be; without it the universe would implode upon itself in a fiery conflagration beyond our ability to imagine. The point is this — how powerful and life-giving is the Word of God. But let us also consider that the same Word that spoke the worlds into existence is the same Word that brought new life to all who believe. Just as His Word keeps the Universe in tact and functioning, His Word is what gives our existence meaning and purpose. And so it seems fitting to conclude with this thought: “man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord” (Deuteronomy 8:3).
Blessings and Shalom,
Bill
