Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Command the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘When you come into the land of Canaan, this is the land that shall fall to you as an inheritance—the land of Canaan to its boundaries.” (Numbers 34:1-2)
This chapter is devoted to establishing tribal boundaries within the land of Canaan as determined by the Creator. Clearly, it was ordained that the individual tribes, and the nation as a whole, were to develop and populate the land to the extent these boundaries allowed. In reality, this did not happen right away, in fact, some are of the opinion that these complete boundaries were only briefly attained during the reigns of David and Solomon. Some argue that they were not completely attained even then and will only be realized fully during the Messiah’s reign.
Be that as it may, the boundaries were determined 3,500 years ago and, because it is by the Creator’s decree, the boundaries are still valid. Consequently, it would seem that at some point in the future, several nations that lay claim to some of these territories will have to be dispossessed, I’m sure to the world’s chagrin. Nevertheless, God has determined that certain regions of this world — a world that He created and can deed to whoever He wishes — are set aside for His people. No power on earth will be able to stand in His way when He deems the set time has come to “favor Zion.”
Likewise, certain promises have been made to us that, perhaps, we are yet to see taking shape. In fact, maybe it looks like others have squatted on our promise and are laying claim to it themselves. As bothersome as that is to us, we must remain confident that what God has decreed will be brought to pass. When that time to favor us has come, no power on earth will be able to resist the Hand of God. However, it is important that we are in the right place, at the right time, ready to possess that which He has given to us. In other words, don’t let the circumstances cause you to give up — stay focused.
Blessings and Shalom,
Bill
