Not too many years ago, a gentleman who was studying the Holocaust and the events that led up to it, including the mindset of the people during that time, concluded that study asking the question: “How is it that so many otherwise intelligent people could so blindly follow a few men and their agenda, and their politics, to end up participating in these atrocities, either directly or indirectly, by not standing up and doing something?” Then as he began to consider events that going on in the world today, specifically in the United States, he answered his own question. He understood how otherwise intelligent people could blindly follow their leaders into oblivion.

There are things developing today – dangerous mindsets and practices – that so many people simply do not perceive or refuse to regard as dangerous. Some go so far as to defend these wicked practices almost to the death as if its been ordained. Is it that something supernatural has blinded them? In 2 Thessalonians 2:11-12 Paul had this to say about the people who are living in the end of days:

“And for this cause God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie, that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”

Might it be that this is what’s happening in our time? Are people, because they don’t want to hear the truth, being sent strong delusion and actually believing a lie? That’s the only thing that makes sense in this world of unbounded evil. If that is the case then believers, like Daniel when offered the delicacies of Babylon, must purpose within hearts not to be overtaken by the darkness but must cling to the truth. Paul also said this in 1 Thessalonians 5:4-6:

“But all of you, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. All of you are all the children of light, and children of the day; we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.”

As disturbing as it is to observe things going on in our day and time we are, nevertheless, called upon to stay alert during this perilous time. We are called to be watchmen, to stand up for what is right and to be the light. It seems that the Creator determined that we are the ones that He could call and depend upon to be faithful in this day and time. It would seem that if He didn’t determine this to be so, He would not have us here now. We have come into the Kingdom for such a time as this! Let’s make up our minds not to disappoint Him, and let’s do the things that He has called upon us to do, not in our own might, but in His power!

Shalom.
