We read in the Scripture that when Messiah was brought before Pilate, the Roman Governor asked Him, “What is truth?” The irony of the question is that Truth was standing right in front of Pilate. He was staring at Truth but he would not, or could not, recognize Him.

On a much broader scale, the same is true in our day and time. People believe in many things –  some call it “their truth” – but what we choose to believe is really not the most important issue. Truth is truth; it doesn’t bend or break under the weight of cultural trends and norms. Truth doesn’t sway and fall with the winds of change. Truth is constant, never changing, never fading. Truth is. So if you’re going to believe in something – make sure its the truth.

Psalm 119:160 says:

“The entirety of Your word is truth and every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.”

What we choose to believe is irrelevant if we choose to believe something other than the truth. We can choose to believe that there are men on Mars. That doesn’t make it so. We can choose to believe that men can marry men and that it’s okay with God. That doesn’t make it so. We can choose to believe in a lot of things, but if it doesn’t reflect the truth, then we’re merely choosing to believe in a fantasy. James 2:19 says:

“You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe – and tremble!”

In other words, believing in God is not adequate. It’s necessary is that we believe God. We  need to believe what He says and conduct our lives in accordance with His truth, not ours. May we hold fast to what is true.

Shalom.
